From Fixes to First Sales: TailoredPrints’ Journey Continues!
Share
Hey 3D printing fans! Luke Munday here, Founder and CEO of TailoredPrints🖨️, back with another update on our exciting journey at www.tailoredprints.co.uk. It’s been a whirlwind since we celebrated our first 5 sales in under a month, and I’m thrilled to share the latest chapter of our story📖—including some printer fixes, a workshop overhaul, and how we’re growing without paid ads. Let’s dive in!
Overcoming Printer Challenges and Workshop Upgrades
Running a small print farm comes with its fair share of challenges. Recently, one of our trusty 3D printers started acting up—misaligned prints and some finicky filament issues. After a few hours of troubleshooting (and a bit of patience), I managed to fix it by recalibrating the bed and replacing a worn-out nozzle. It was a reminder that maintenance is key to keeping our printers humming along smoothly. To prevent future hiccups, I’ve set up a regular maintenance schedule for all our machines, ensuring they’re ready to tackle our growing orders.
On top of that, I took some time to rearrange the workshop for better efficiency. Before, my setup was a bit chaotic—printers squeezed into corners, filament spools scattered, and tools everywhere. I reorganized the space to create a streamlined workflow: printers are now neatly aligned with dedicated stations for filament storage, post-processing, and packaging. This small change has made a huge difference, saving time and keeping me focused on creating high-quality 3D-printed fidget toys, home decor, miniatures, and cosplay accessories. The workshop is now a lean, mean printing machine!
Growing Slowly and Steadily Without Paid Ads
Business at TailoredPrints is picking up slowly but surely, and I’m thrilled with the progress. What’s exciting is that we’ve achieved this growth without spending a penny on paid advertising. Instead, I’ve been focusing on lightly managing our social media profiles on platforms like TikTok and YouTube to drive traffic to www.tailoredprints.co.uk. By sharing behind-the-scenes looks at my design process, printing tips, and fun product showcases, we’re building a community of 3D printing enthusiasts who love what we do.
I’ve been hesitant to dive into paid ads, mainly because TailoredPrints is still a side hustle. Between my day job and running the business, I’m limited by time and space to scale production. For now, I’m focusing on organic growth through social media and word-of-mouth, which feels more authentic and sustainable for where we’re at. That said, I’m always learning new marketing strategies to maximize our reach without breaking the bank.
Juggling Learning and Creating
As a self-taught 3D designer and printer, I’m constantly learning—and there’s a lot to take in! From mastering new design techniques in Blender and Tinkercad to experimenting with different filaments, every project pushes me to grow. But it’s not just about 3D printing. I’m also diving into marketing strategies, social media management, and website management/coding to make TailoredPrints’ online presence as strong as our prints. Managing www.tailoredprints.co.uk has been a crash course in e-commerce, from tweaking the website for better user experience to learning the basics of SEO to help customers find us.
It’s a lot to juggle, but I love the challenge. Every new skill I pick up—whether it’s designing a complex model or optimizing a product listing—makes TailoredPrints stronger. Plus, it’s incredibly rewarding to see our products, like articulated miniatures and sleek home decor pieces, find homes with customers who appreciate the craft.
