From Self-Taught to Startup: The Journey of TailoredPrints and Our First 5 Sales in Under a Month!
Hey there, 3D printing enthusiasts! I’m Luke Munday, the Founder and CEO of TailoredPrints, and I’m beyond excited to share the incredible journey of how my passion for 3D design and printing has turned into a growing business at www.tailoredprints.co.uk. From humble beginnings to celebrating our first 5 sales today, all within less than a month, here’s how TailoredPrints came to life—and where we’re headed next!
The Start of Something Special
I’ve always been a tinkerer, fascinated by creating things with my hands. A little over 2 months ago, I stumbled into the world of 3D printing and design. I was completely self-taught, spending countless late nights watching tutorials, experimenting with software like Blender and Tinkercad, and learning the ins and outs of my first 3D printer a month later. The first print I ever made was a simple safe door mechanism that honestly, wasn’t perfect, but it sparked something in me. I was hooked.
Fast forward a month and TailoredPrints has grown into a creative hub for 3D-printed products like fidget toys, home decor, gadgets, miniatures, cosplay accessories, and so much more. Check out some of our creations below, all made with love and precision on our small print farm.

One of our printers hard at work creating a fidget toy!

A unique home decor piece with a textured design.

Another stylish home decor item with a tufted cushion look.

Building TailoredPrints: From a Single Printer to a Small Print Farm
As my skills grew, so did my ambitions. I started designing more complex items—think articulated miniatures for tabletop gaming, sleek home decor pieces, and even custom cosplay props. To keep up with demand, I set up a small print farm with a few reliable 3D printers, each humming away to bring my designs to life. It’s been a learning curve, from troubleshooting failed prints to perfecting the settings for different filaments, but every challenge has made me a better designer and printer.
One of the most exciting parts of this journey will be launching new products every month starting this month with a cosplay theme. Whether it’s a quirky gadget or a stunning cosplay piece, there’s always something fresh for our customers to explore. You can find all our latest drops on our website at www.tailoredprints.co.uk or check out our listings on our eBay page at https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/tailoredprints.
Going Digital: Building a Brand Online
To share my creations with the world, I knew I needed to go beyond my workshop. In just under a month, I launched the TailoredPrints website, set up social media accounts, and started connecting with a community of 3D printing fans. On our YouTube channel, I share behind-the-scenes looks at my design process, printing tips, and time-lapses of our printers in action. Over on TikTok, you’ll find quick, fun videos showcasing our latest products and creative ideas.
Building an online presence wasn’t easy—I’m still learning the ropes of SEO, social media marketing, and e-commerce—but it’s been so rewarding to see our community grow. And today, we hit a major milestone: our first 5 sales! From a single fidget toy to a custom cosplay piece, each order feels like a huge win.
Always Learning, Always Growing
I’ll be honest—I’m still learning, and I always will be. 3D printing and design are constantly evolving, with new techniques, materials, and technologies emerging all the time. But that’s what I love about this craft: there’s always something new to discover. Whether I’m experimenting with a new filament or designing a complex miniature, every project teaches me something new.
What’s Next for TailoredPrints?
The future is bright for TailoredPrints! We’ll continue dropping new products every month, so be sure to follow us on TikTok and YouTube to stay updated. We’re also working on expanding our range, with plans to introduce more custom designs and even offer personalized 3D printing services down the line.
